"But I don't want to get bulky, I want to have nice and toned muscle's"
The above quote is one of the most common requests we receive from ladies when sitting down for their initial consultation.
But the question does present itself, will you actually get bulky from weight training? and where does this belief come from?
Maybe body building is to blame when it comes to this belief? I mean lifting weights was heavily associated with big men that were bulky in the gym shown to be strength training....... But that doesn't mean the weights are to blame.
In reality, weight training will not make you bulky. In fact it is the best modality or form of training to develop the physique you desired. If done correctly and with structure - this form of training is more superior then cardio, boxing classes, bootcamps etc. when it comes to physique development. Though there is nothing with any form of training, you just need to be aware of what return you will receive for your time.

As a summary as long as you are not piling on excess body fat due to over consumption of calories, have a structured weight training program that focuses on what you want to develop and don't have 'bulky'' genetics - You can maximise your physique potential.
It is a becoming more known know that achieving body composition results (decreasing body fat and building lean mass) is much more desirable then just weight loss - as this is the request we receive. If you have a lot of body weight in the form of body fat, weight loss is a priority for health. As you get leaner you do need to be smarter with what actual body weight you are losing - muscle or fat? This is where strength training helps stimulate muscle tissue so you can lose more body fat and less muscle.
